The 85th Academy Awards

The Academy Awards are finally here! This Sunday! It'll be taking place at the Kodak theater and Seth MacFarlane is the host. I feel like MacFarlane will bring some humor to this ceremony, humor that appeals more to the younger crowd. Hip, like the young children say. *Cough.*
I'm excited for the Oscars, as many surely are. When you finally understand the ceremony, it has so much more meaning. Also when you think about how many people's hopes and dreams lie on this one award... whew. The whole prestige of the Oscars is what people in the industry aim for. Sure, everyone has their own definition for "making it big" but the Oscars is where those people can be acknowledged through the whole film community. However, not everyone can be 'awarded' an Oscar.
If Argo wins When Argo wins Best picture, I want to see Ben Affleck's reaction. Winning big on Big Picture and not even getting nominated for Best Director is a very peculiar situation. It's the reactions that get me the most. On another note, I'll be very surprised if Anne Hathaway does not go home with Best Supporting Actress. It's the award she's been craving for her role as Fantine in Les Miserables. It's the award I personally believe she deserves. The other categories (I'm particularly interested in Best Actress this year) seem to have great competitors. The winners being announced is the big reveal~
The Oscars are like a present. It holds so much potential. Those who are nominated are expecting something out of this night. Like we all do, we create expectations before opening a present. The millisecond before unwrapping it, we already know what we want, or what we believe we need. These expectations can either be true or false. There's no in between. However, no even with the tension, the Oscars create a buzz. One that makes the atmosphere even feel more alive. At the end of the night, it's about film. Pain is temporary film is forever. And yes, I did just use that cheesy line.

  4. I agree with you about Affleck's reaction when Argo wins for Best Movie. It is sad that he was not nominated for Best Director because I believe he truly deserved it. However, with his talent, I believe that he will be nominated in the near future and finally grasp that win he was robbed this year.

  5. I remember Alexa saying that Best Director and Best Picture usually comes hand-in-hand. So when Ang Lee won Best Director, I was like "No way!" I was absolutely sure that Argo would win Best Picture. It turns out that Argo won anyways so WHOO! The Oscars took up 4 hours of my life, but it was worth it.
