Oscars: Best Actor

The ones up for Best Actor this season are Joaquin Phoenix for The Master, Denzel Washington for Flight, Bradley Cooper for Silver Linings Playbook, Hugh Jackman for Les Miserables, and Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln.
Daniel Day-Lewis. Whoa. Out of all the other nominees I feel like Daniel Day-Lewis has got a really good chance of getting this award. Don't get me wrong, all the other actors did pretty well but I was blown away by Daniel Day-Lewis.
Now, a lot of people praise Daniel Day-Lewis for his voice-- how it varied from other portrayals of Lincoln. Rather than a deep husky voice, a gentle one. He seemed like an old parent - which he was- and was the one you could rely on.

Now do I like this gentle voice? I actually do, it makes Lincoln seem humble yet more.. dramatic. In middle school we had two actors come in, and they portrayed President Lincoln and a soldier; their voices were booming. Their voices allowed them to have a presence in the room and made them seem in command from the start, as if they were not hiding anything. But Daniel Day-Lewis's voice allowed him to seem as a real human, and when he was serious, the voice seemed even more exquisite and the emotion was just there.
Overall, it's not just the voice. It's his performance. The somber mood that Daniel Day-Lewis was able to give Lincoln, as if he brought him to life. How he carried out Lincoln... he was fierce when needed and wise and timely. He brought the intensity and the realism needed for the role through his performance, it wasn't just specific things. It really was his acting. Daniel Day-Lewis, I hope, will be awarded this Oscar. It'll be his third.

  2. Ehhh, politics. I've never really been fond of it. Despite the movie being kind of boring - because of the politics in it - I really have to give it to Daniel Day-Lewis. He gave a top notch performance, one that I think is rather hard to beat.

  3. Gahhh I LOVE politics!!! I totally disagree on the boringness factor. I thought it was downright incredible and kept me on my toes. Day-Lewis was the whipped cream frosting on the beautiful cake :D
