Nonetheless, the race for the holiday season begins with ‘Victoria’s Secret’, ‘The Voice’, ‘Rudolph’ Down; ‘Happy Endings’ & ‘Apt. 23′ Up.
You know that Christmas is coming when Rudolph starts showing up and the Christmas songs begin blasting on the radio. Alas, to steal the article's pun, Rudolph's light did not shine so bright last night: CBS’ airing of the 1964 stop-motion animation Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (2.9/8) special was down 28% from last year. This article caught my attention because of this. Like they said, this has been airing since 1964, and it seems that the spirit has almost deadened. To drop by 28%... wow. My question is, what are other people doing? Because it seems that other show ratings have gone down, is it because of the target audience's lack of interest, or their belief that if they miss the show they can always youtube it?
"Also down Tuesday was The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show(3.5/10). Airing at 10 PM, the lingerie show fell 24% from last year’s all-time high. However, Victoria’s Secret was the night’s highest-rated show. CBS also broadcast a repeat of NCIS (2.0/5) at 9 PM.
After a rise last week, NBC’s The Voice (3.4/10) also fell, its live results broadcast slipped 11% from the November 27 show. Go On (2.5/7) was flat with last week as was The New Normal (1.7/4). Parenthood (1.7/5) was down 6% from its November 27 broadcast."
It is interesting to see that multiple shows have seen a viewership decline. As a future filmmaker it makes me realize that if things are successful at first, they are not always going to stay that way. Although, because my shows were not a big hit at first doesn't mean it'll be a failure either. For example tale ABC this week, Happy Endings (1.3/3) was up 18% and Don’t Trust The B—- In Apt. 23 (1.2/3) was up an impressive 33% from two weeks ago.
These four networks have seen either a decline or increase in their audience and I wonder what they think when they see those numbers. Student-wise, I would think that society is changing and although film impacts our culture, our culture also impacts what shows up in the film, the media. On the other hand, as a consumer, it makes me realize that society seems to have everything at their fingertips. And that is why Victoria's Secret Fashion Show was the most viewed and Carl's Jr's ads are the most memorable. Not that I'm being pessimistic saying that it's bad, it is just an interesting thing to take note of in this case.
Reindeer sperm... great... our models are not only trashy, but supporters of bestiality too...
ReplyDeleteAs far as TV goes, bad ratings for 1 week don't dictate if a show is cancelled or not. I don't think this will impact most of those shows that heavily.
ReplyDeleteBut the thing is, Rudolph has been airing since 1964. It's decline is quite staggering.
DeleteOh no! I love the Voice. I whole-heartedly believe that it's better than the X Factor and American Idol. The four judges are great at giving critiques and praises and the judges for the X Factor and American Idol just generally piss me off. I don't understand why it doesn't get the ratings it fully deserves. In fact, I think it's insulting that the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show got a better rating.
