How to Catch Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling is man of many talents. These include acting and, apparently, making all the ladies swoon. Now, he's adding onto that by testing the waters on the directing and writing side of filmmaking. On Deadline Hollywood, they talk about the film "How To Catch A Monster" and state that it will be "Ryan Gosling's Directing Debut." In fact, the article is about how Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will also produce from Marc Platt Productions, along with the magic man himself, Ryan Gosling. Not only that, but Ryan Gosling will also be writing the script for the movie.
Producer, Marc Platt compliments "He [Ryan Gosling] has composed a beautifully haunting script and has a very clear vision of how he will bring it to life. His ability to draw audiences into his world as an actor will serve him well as a filmmaker." Nick Meyer also said something similar, mentioning that Ryan Gosling's ability to connect with audiences will serve him well in the director's chair.
"How to Catch a Monster" has no release date yet, but is told be a film with elements of fantasy noir, and with suspense mixed with a modern day fairytale. "Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive."

Now, this article interested me because you don't really see many well known actors turning into directors now a days. Usually they turn into singers and whatnot. Secondly, this is Ryan Gosling. Not that I'm showing any favoritism, but I really do like most of his work. But I've never watched "The Notebook." That fan craze never got to me. Anyway, it will be interesting to see where he goes especially if producers already think that his script is "hauntingly beautiful." This does raise some few questions though, is Ryan Gosling putting his acting career on a halt or will he still be an actor and director such as Clint Eastwood?
As a student, this fact isn't really important except that now I can see how Ryan Gosling fits well as a director and scriptwriter. We can only hope that it's not something like singers turning into actors... which is pretty much a disaster. I'm talking to you Jessica Simpson. Likewise, as a consumer, it has the same effect. I actually want to see the movie because the storyline seems interesting. As a future filmmaker, I am honestly wondering if Ryan Gosling can pull it off (although, he probably can and will). If he does, then I guess that means acting does give some insight on how to direct certain scenes to pull of the effect wanted. Overall, this doesn't really raise questions for me about the industry. Unless the only reason anyone is supporting Ryan Gosling as a director and a scriptwriter is because he has a solid fan base as an actor. However, since that doesn't seem like the case, he may even become known as a director and actor like Clint Eastwood, George Clooney, and Kevin Costner.

  1. George Clooney, Sean Penn, Clint Eastwood, Mel Gibson, Barbara Streisand, Penny Marshall, Kevin Costner - all actors who have become directors.
